HortiBonn at the inaugural meeting of the NRW Forest Research Network

Representing the University of Bonn as a key research institution in North Rhine Westfalia (NRW), HortiBonn’s Dr. Alex Röll followed an invitation by the Ministry of Agriculture NRW for the inaugural networking meeting of the NRW Forest Research Network (‘Forschungsnetzwerk Wald NRW’) on 10 Oct 2024 in Düsseldorf. Here, representatives from over ten research institutes and ministries in NRW consulted with each other on concrete next steps to initiate the network, which has been in the making since 2018. Inspired by the successful NRW Agriculture Research Network (https://www.nrw-agrar.de), the newly inaugurated NRW Forest Research Network (https://www.wald-und-holz.nrw.de/ueber-uns/forschung/forschungsnetzwerk-wald-nrw) will bring together forest and wood-related research activities in NRW, facilitate research projects and activities and grow further to include a multitude of stakeholders along forestry value chains. Envisioned are synergistic effects and accelerated insights for forest conservation and climate change adaption in NRW.

Hi, I am a forest ecologist strongly interested in agroforestry approaches, with a focus on hydrological research using ground-validated remote sensing applications from drones and satellites to study ecosystem structures, dynamics and key exchange processes across spatial scales, from single trees to regions.
