HortiBonn at Tropentag 2023 in Berlin
Tropentag, the largest interdisciplinary conference in Europe, recently unfolded its chapters in Berlin, and HortiBonn proudly contributed to the vibrant discussions on “Competing Pathways for Equitable Food Systems Transformation: Trade-offs and Synergies.”
Our team members Hoa Do and co-authors shared insights in their talk, ‘Development of Agroforestry in Upland Northern Vietnam: A Farmers’ Perspective,’ offering a grounded perspective on sustainable agriculture. Meanwhile, alexandra_krause and colleagues presented ‘Empowering Rural Farm Women in Agricultural Development: A Decision Analysis Approach with a Focus on Gender,’ adding a thoughtful layer to gender dynamics in agriculture.
In the spotlight was the HortiBonn project led by Dr. Cory Whitney, making waves at Tropentag. Dang To Kien engaged in a panel discussion on ‘Leveraging Human Rights-Based Action towards Equitable Food Systems,’ hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). Dang also presented ‘Preserving Food Environments and Livelihoods: Transitions and Challenges for the Ca Dong People in Vietnam.’ Adding depth to the conversation, NIFAM’s Nguyen and co-authors discussed ‘Nutrition Interventions for Enhanced Child Health Outcomes in Hanoi, Vietnam.’
Tropentag 2023 was an enriching experience, providing a platform for Hortibonn to contribute meaningfully to the discourse on the future of equitable food systems.
